Harmonia - Singing Day

HARMONIA, of Bridgwater Choral Society SINGING DAY SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2024

Harmonia member's had a most enjoyable singing day in our rehearsal hall, the Salvation Army Hall, and were joined by potential new members. Formed from Bridgwater Choral Society, the members were led by their conductor Jackie Ayres, working through songs from around the world such as John Rutter's Feel the Spirit and choral classics by Robert Schumann and Faure. It was a friendly day and gave members the chance to socialise together with a cuppa while doing what they really love. Over the past two years the choir has developed a good balance and has tackled an eclectic mix of music.

There are two concerts coming up on 18th May and 7th June - we would be pleased to see you.

If you are interested in either coming along to join us, or to offer your help and support in any other way, please email the secretary or conductor: Sue Pow, Secretary, hydeparkpows@yahoo.co.uk, Jackie Ayres, Conductor, jackieanddavidayres@hotmail.co.uk. Do come and give us a try. We rehearse every Wednesday evening from 7.00 until 9.00pm in The Salvation Army Hall, Moorland Road, Bridgwater. Please email first.

This concert by Harmonia was an informal concert presented to Friends and Family of the Choral Society.

The programme included English Folk Song arrangements, Hungarian Folk Songs, classical songs by Schubert and Brahms, and John Rutter's lovely Prayer for Ukraine.  There was a solo by Mary Morgan, and piano duets by Jackie Ayres and Frances Webb.

A retiring collection was taken which was shared by St Mary's Church and the Emergency Appeal for Ukraine.

This concert by Bridgwater Choral Society to celebrate 75 years of Peace since the Second World War is now CANCELLED due to the ongoing coronavirus situation.

The Choir hopes that the music it had begun to prepare will be performed at a time in the future when the health emergency is over.

In September, all being well, the Choir will reassemble to rehearse their planned Christmas Concert, which will take place at the same venue on Saturday December 5th 2020. This Concert is always very popular so the Society members hope that you will join them once more for this joyous event.
